The new website features a wide variety of high-quality photos and maps, that you can zoom in on to see stunning details, as well as a collection of oral history interviews on video and streaming audio. In the 1980s, the City of Boulder established the Carnegie Library for Local History, and a partnership was struck between the Museum and the Library.

The Carnegie Library for Local History archive collects and preserves our community’s memory for future generations of researchers. This is a place to research anything related to the history of Boulder. By 1983, the Carnegie was re-opened as the Carnegie Library for Local History. Very interesting books about Boulder, photographs from the flood in 2894. Part of the Boulder Public Library and located in Boulder’s original library building, the Carnegie Library contains comprehensive Boulder county historic materials—including books, diaries, 200,000 historic photographs, digitized oral history interviews, the collection of the Boulder Genealogical Society and the entire clipping files of the Boulder Daily Camera newspaper. Very few public libraries have collections of local history materials as comprehensive or as exciting as those in the Carnegie Library for Local History. It is a free service by this unique city.

The city of Boulder is proud to have such a comprehensive and extensive collection housed in the Carnegie Library … Written, visual and audible materials created by and about Boulder-area residents are housed in our documents room, and are available to the public and scholars for research.
