The human body uses evaporation to stay comfortable in warm weather, much like cool off by panting. Consider this case: It’s a sunny day, and as the air temperature increases, the body begins to sweat and most days sweat will evaporate.
As relative humidity increases, the air seems warmer than it actually is because the body is less able to cool itself via evaporation of perspiration. Under these conditions, the temperature “feels like” the thermostat setting.

This script calculates the Heat Index ( or "feels like" temperature) from the relative humidity or from the dew point, along with the ambient air temperature in degrees Fahrenheit (F). That corresponding temperature on the heat index (sometimes called the "apparent temperature" or "relative outdoor temperature") approximates what the high humidity and heat actually feels like to the average person.

Right now I am sitting in a room that has an air temperature of 71F (measured using an electronic thermometer). 8:28 pm. Unlike air temperature which tells how warm or cool the actual air around you is, apparent temperature tells you how warm or cool your body thinks the air is.
Conversely on a humid day in summer it can feel uncomfortably hotter than the air temperatures would suggest on their own.
