The mountain is a popular hiking spot in western Maine, with trailheads located on Byron Road in unincorporated Township 6, north of Weld. Length 5.3 mi Elevation gain 1,952 ft Route type Loop Tumbledown Mountain is located in western Maine near Weld Village.

The area is best for moderate to advanced hikers, but as with any hike, caution should be exercised to hike safely. To break up the trip a little bit, make a stop at Tumbledown Mountain in Weld. Little Jackson Mountain is part of the same range as Tumbledown Mountain, but it is higher elevation and ledges offer a different perspective. Easy first mile gives way to much steeper climb over boulder fields and numerous waterfalls. Tumbledown Mountain Trail is a 5.3 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Weld, Maine that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, camping, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from May until October.

This modest 3,000-foot mountain offers a big New England mountain hiking experience. While not the highest mountain in the region, it is easily the most interesting. Tumbledown offers trails of varying difficulty for different hikers. Tumbledown Mountain is a mountain in Franklin County, Maine. The south face of Tumbledown is comprised of impressive 700+ foot cliffs which form the northern side of Byron Notch. We took the Tumbledown Brook trail to the top. It's a best bang for the buck hike. Tumbledown Mountain is not the highest mountain in this area, but with three peaks, 700-foot cliffs and a pond (or mountain tarn) near the summit, Tumbledown stands out among its taller rivals.

Tumbledown Mountain is also located near Coos Canyon, a mountain stream. It's not the tallest mountain in Maine, but exploring the area will provide some incredible views, beautiful plants and even a near-summit pond. It is distinguished by an alpine pond (known locally as Crater Lake or Tumbledown Pond) just below the summit.
